Houston,Universal News -For the first time, the iPhone will be sent into space. Apple's revolutionary mobile phone will be taken in the last mission of launching the shuttle Atlantis is scheduled on July 8, 2011. iPhone is already equipped with an application for IOS Spacelab specially designed by Odyssey Space Research, aerospace research firm in Houston, Texas, USA, to do some research.
Once the space shuttle docked to the International Space Station (ISS), astronauts will use these applications to do experiments that use cameras, gyroscopes, and sensors that owned the iPhone. Experimental stages have been incorporated into the application so that astronauts do not need to use the manual as usual.
"I strongly believe that this is the first iPhone that was taken into space," said Brian Rishikof, CEO of Odyssey, as reported by Venture Beat site on Friday (06/09/2011). iPhone 4 that will be taken have been certified for aerospace equipment and packaged by NanoRocks, specialized companies in Houston who prepared a package of goods to be sent into space.
According Rishikof, the idea of bringing the iPhone 4 into space come since the device launched in 2010. At that time, the iPhone is already equipped with four gyroscope that can support experiments in the weightlessness of space. The existence of a gyroscope to make the iPhone could potentially be used to determine the orientation and position of spacecraft in orbit.
There were four experimental spacecraft that will be done using the iPhone 4. First, estimate the height or altitude 4 iPhone is in space. You do this by photographing the surface of the earth's curvature curve. Second, the gyroscope and accelerometer calibration experiment using a camera and all the sensors that owned the iPhone 4.
Third, do the approximate position coordinates of the surface of the Earth's iPhone four aliases longitude and latitude. You do this by photographing the surface of the Earth and compare them with maps and image of the coastline. Fourth, tests of the effect of radiation on the computer's memory by measuring changes every bit in RAM memory the iPhone 4.
Applications Spacelab for IOS will be available to the public. Some experiments are also provided in the version of the simulation in order to stay can be tried even inside the Earth's gravitational influence. This application can be downloaded at a cost of $ 1 U.S..
